Compose Yourself!

A 45-minute Classical Music Educational Showpiece

Description

Compose Yourself!, commissioned by the Naples Philharmonic in 2002, is an interactive, educational and entertaining show designed to introduce children of all ages to the instruments of the symphony orchestra.  The 45-minute presentation combines humor and information throughout its narrative to maintain the students' interest right to the thrilling conclusion.

The innovative focal point of the show allows the children to compose their very own piece of music, thereby instructing them in the creation of classical music, followed by their first very own world premiere!

Composed with flexibility in mind, the piece can be performed with conductor and narrator in a concert setting, or it can travel as a self-narrated chamber ensemble.  Recognizing the limitations present in some situations, cues are included in the parts to allow for the possible absence of several instruments, including harp, trombone and tuba.  The last part of the show---the music and emotions demo---can be optional to be used as time permits.
